Science, Technology and Society The objectives of this STS class are: i) To study and understand the many ways that science and technology shape our society- its culture, values, and institutions-- and how such factors shape science and technology. ii) To convey the message that science and technology is vital across disciplines – that science is not merely a collection of facts but is, at its core, a way of thinking and dealing with the world. iii) To help the student gain a better understanding of the nature, as well as the cultural and political significance of mathematics, science and technology. iv) To provide common ground for dialogue among students of science, engineering, the social sciences, and the humanities so that they can explore the ways in which their disciplines interact. v) To help provide the foundation for responsible citizenship, by instilling the values of nationalism, and concern for the people and the world we live in.
